In shamanistic cultures, all adults are accountable for their relationships with spiritual energies, consisting of those of their house environment (geography, animals, and plant life,) their ancestors, their own individual assisting spirits, and Spirit, the developer force.
Nevertheless, the shaman is special in that he or she not only has increased center for traveling in non-ordinary realms, but likewise uses their spirit relationships to produce changes that will manifest in the physical world, for the healing of individuals or the community.
This meaning distinguishes shamans from other types of professionals. For example, mediums utilize transformed states of consciousness, but they do not take action in those modified states. And sorcerers do something about it in transformed states, but not necessarily to heal.
